Color Album

Los Angeles, 1977
2016-2025, Oil on canvas, 90 x 60 cm

He once found an album of photographs in an old rural house where he had lived as a child. The photographs were taken during his parents’ 1977 honeymoon trip to Los Angeles. Photographs from a hotel poolside, inside a car, the interior of clothing stores, parks, and other snapshots of everyday life.

In 2016, he picked up a photograph from his parents’ honeymoon album to use as the motif for a painting for an exhibition. However, this was not particularly significant. It was merely one image among some possessing various characteristics. After the exhibition, the painting was left rolled up in the corner of the room.

Several years later, his life changed dramatically. That is, the brief breaks between babysitting became precious time he could devote to his painting. He picked up the painting that had been left in the corner of the room, re-stretched the canvas, and gradually began to touch on it. As time went by, the paintings underwent significant changes. In 2025, more than 10 years after he found the photographs, it has been 48 years since it was taken.
